CT Scan

As a further part of the investigation I had a CT Scan to see if there were any other ‘nasties’ lurking around in other areas of the body.

It was after this appointment that Denise and I started to discuss the probable outcomes, although not in any great detail, being married for nearly 50 years does lend itself to being fairly telepathic, so not much was required to be said.

What was discussed in some detail was ‘should we tell our two daughters, Jannette and Kathlene, their husbands and our 4 grandchildren?  We made the decision not to tell them, what could we tell them?  ‘I have a tumour in the bladder’ this may have led to obvious questions like – is it Cancerous?  We could not answer these nor similar questions that may have followed. It was these reasons that confirmed our decision not to say anything to them until we knew exactly what my situation was.

Although our daughters live some distance away, we have remained a very close family, and I know it did annoy them that they were not told of the ‘problem’ earlier.  I hope that they now understand the reason for this decision was that we did not want them to worry without due cause.  I did inform a member of the club, someone who I consider to be a friend and not just a member of the club.  Unfortunately for him and his wife, they as a family had recently been through a far worse medical experience.  I had actually read 'Seths Blog' some months previously when nominating him and his elder Sister (Evie) for the 'Fareham Borough Council Young Citizen of Honour.'

For those parents out there that may be experiencing the trauma of a child suffering from cancer please read Seths journey at http://sethsstory.org.uk

It comes with a warning - it will make you cry.

I have since found out that one of the Masters swimmers that I coach had concerns and did speak with a member(s) of the committee.  Their main reason for concern was that they had not heard any more about my London to Brighton Cycle Ride and thought something was wrong.

A period of 7 – 10 days had passed since the CT scan and nothing had been heard, I took this as a very positive outcome, surely if they had found anything of a serious nature, they would admit me fairly quickly for further investigation.  It is then ‘seeds of doubt’ are sown, what if they had lost the results, what if someone had not interpreted the scan correctly together with similar thoughts.
